On the Road...

So I never finished the Bariloche entries or wrote of our our holiday season or even started on Berta´s visit. Time just kind of slipped away the way it does when you need or want it to stick around a little longer, and before I knew it, Eriks and I had found a new apartment for March (a small loft on the outskirts of San Telmo), were all packed up and sitting on a plane making its way down south. Ah well, I´ve always been an underestimater, whether it was guessing the number of jellybeans in a jar in 3rd grade(I was HORRIBLE at estimation exercises and always thought there were 50 when there were really 600), taking a stab at how many other people there are in a baseball stadium (I once guessed 4,000 and there were 40,000!), or in this case, how much I can actually get done in a limited amount of time. So I guess this was no different. I´m not able do them now, either, as I can´t use my computer (and access important photos) at the hostel we´re staying at right now in Salta and I am definitely not starting any entries about this trip as photos are essential. But I thought it might be a good idea to make a short post about where we´re at on our trip: Salta.

In the Northwest of Argentina, Salta is a lazy little city out in the middle of the desert, which is exactly what we were looking for after about 20 days of activities and flights and bus after bus after bus. We´ve been here for about 5 days and are leaving on Tuesday morning for Iguazu Falls bright and early. We have mostly spent our days doing a whole lot of not much, which has been extremely enjoyable. We´ve walked around the plazas, eaten icecream, gone to the movies twice (There Will Be Blood, incredible!; Charlie Wilson´s War, so-so; Julia Robert´s ´´accent,´´ horrible), barbequed at the hostel, and just read and played a lot of cards. I picked up Running With Scissors from the hostel´s bookshelf a few days ago, as I´ve gone through the books I brought along and that was practically the only one in English other than a book of Yeats. Again, so-so, though I guess one can´t exactly expect the cream of the crop in literature to sit amongst books that have intentionally been left out of backpacks during the repacking process. The most strenuous activity we´ve done while here was hiking up some 1000 stairs to the top of a hill overlooking the city, but the stairs were nothing compared to Machu Picchu and only took about a half hour to climb, so it didn´t feel all the strenuous. Today if we´ll go to church is we come across a church service while walking around, but otherwise we´re looking at a third day at Hoyt´s movie theatre to see Cloverfield Monstruo and then probably will watch the Oscars and make popcorn. I´m not sure what tomorrow holds as the only other movies left at Hoyt´s are the likes of The Game Plan featuring Dwayne ´The Rock´Johnson and National Treasure II. Unfortunately No Country for Old Men doesn´t come out for another week, but I guess that´s something to look forward to when we get back to BsAs, which at this point is only a week away. Wow, only a week away. I guess this trip is just another instance of time flying, but so it goes...
